Educational Background

School Year Tutoring Program

I offer tutoring for students, grades 1st through 5th. My goal is to enable your children to gain confidence and develop the skills they need to be successful in school while making their tutoring session fun. During the school year, my reading and math programs will give your child an opportunity to get extra help with his daily homework assignments and give one-on-one help in understanding concepts he or she may struggle with in the classroom, such as reading, spelling or math skills.

For students who are just entering or finishing Kindergarten, I offer pre-reading help with letter and phonics recognition, plus a phonics based reading program geared just for this age. I accomplish this through numerous games and hands-on activities plus a phonic based series of books they can keep. I can schedule times before and after their Kindergarten program. This program is especially helpful for the child who may have attention issues in preschool that have interfered with their learning process. This one-on-one instruction helps them stay on task in Kindergarten and be much more prepared for 1st grade.

Summer Tutoring Program

In the summer I offer "Evie's Summer Reading Club", another opportunity for students to practice and master their reading, writing and math skills so they can retain what they have been learning during the school year. It's a great time to work on those skills with which they still struggle. I accomplish this by setting up a 5 day homework assignment schedule in those areas. We set up a goal in which they can earn points for accomplishing special homework assignments. Once they reach their goal, it is reward day! This technique creates fun, a desire to achieve and excitement in trying to reach their goal.

Beginnings of my After School Tutoring Program

In 2006, two of my students who were in my "Evie's Summer Reading Club" began getting behind in school due to some learning disabilities. Their parents approached me to tutor their children during the school year to help them with their reading and math skills. We go over their daily homework assignments and also review and correct assignments that are returned each Friday in their Friday Folders. This developed into the After School Reading and Math Tutoring Program that I do today.

The elementary school age group is particularly appealing to me because they are extremely impressionable, interested in learning and open to new concepts. I have creative abilities and numerous resources to assist me in developing multi-sensory lessons. I consider it a privilege to work with each student. Read about my educational background.

Through all these years of working with children, nothing gives me greater pleasure than to see a child smile as they learn something new. I thoroughly enjoy the tutoring process and love helping my students build confidence so they can excel both academically and socially. My goal has always been and always will be.... To Make Learning Fun! To that effort, I feel I have been very successful and I hope to continue for years to come.

READING/MATH TUTORING

Monday - Thursday (3:00 - 4:00 pm & 4:30 - 5:30 pm)

During the Summer: I have afternoon hours available. Times are flexible.
Monday - Thursday (1:15 - 2:15 pm, 2:30 - 3:30 pm & 3:45 - 4:45 pm)

Word of mouth is very beneficial in promoting what I do. If you know of someone who could benefit from my services, I hope you will pass my name along! If they end up sending their child to me, I will give you one free week of tutoring. This is for new tutoring students only.

Educational Background

After graduating from high school, college was just not an option for me. My husband and I chose to get married and start a family right away. Once I made the decision to be a childcare provider, I took every opportunity presented to me to learn how to become a great teacher. Most recently, in 2007, I took the PhonicS First Foundations Level 1 & Level 2 of the Ortland Gillingham PhonicS Reading Program to become a certified Reading Specialist. It has been my self-motivation and a God-given love for working with children that has enabled me to become the teacher I am today. I don't hold a college degree, but I have learned a tremendous amount in my 20 years of on the job training. The children have taught me what works and what doesn't!
